Name: Carl Krupitzer
Company: I’m CEO of ThingLogix Inc
What does your company do?
ThingLogix is a consulting services firm that is transforming the interaction between products, customers, and people using Internet of Things technology.
Why do you love running a fast-growth company?
Every day there is a new challenge which requires creative thinking and teamwork to solve. There’s a sense of real accomplishment and satisfaction that comes from building something with people you enjoy working with.
How much of the time do you wish you weren’t?
Never. I enjoy the fast pace. I don’t think I could ever go back to a “normal” job without going insane!
What are the hardest things about it?
There’s a level of stress that is hard to detach from. That team thing cuts both ways. Having people you rely on means they rely on you so “checking out” isn’t an option.
Tell us about a favorite nugget of wisdom from a mentor
It’s a toss up between, “You have two ears and one mouth for a reason…listen more than you talk,” and “Focus on building a culture that embraces customers, team and fun. A strong culture will carry you further than anything”.
What’s your greatest business achievement?
It would be cliché to point to some deal we closed or project we executed on; the real accomplishment is that we have built something that has been able to sustain all of our employees’ families since day one.
Who would you like to be stuck in a lift with?
A person important enough to make getting the damn thing unstuck a REALLY high priority!
Where is the consulting industry heading?
Every consultant has the “let us partner with you” talk track. The reality is that companies really cannot carry all skill sets in-house and are realizing that well thought out consulting relationships can allow them to move faster – and deliver more cost effectively – than they could using traditional in-house methods. Consulting will continue to evolve the partnering model with their customers so that the consulting firm has more skin in the customer’s success than simply “fee-for-service”.
What advice would you give your 21-year-old self?
Recognize that everyone you interact with has the ability to teach you something that you can carry forward. Pay attention to building up the individuals around you and everything else will fall into place.
What major benefit has Kimble delivered to your business?
Kimble has allowed us to scale our business and pay attention to the details that make or break engagements. We started with Kimble right away even though we were small enough where other tools may have been simpler in the short term, but we never would have been able to scale quickly without major overhauls. As business and the pace has increased, Kimble has become core to the way we operate as a company. Every week we find ourselves asking more of Kimble as a core system and realizing new ways we can use it!
